Keeping it Real: Project Disaster!

Have you ever had a project that just didn't go right no matter what you tried? This is my life this week. I was so excited to make resin pendants. "How hard could it be?" I thought. Well, it turns out, considerably harder than I imagined. I really wanted to do this for my Creative Friday post this week. About a month ago I bought some two part expoxy for another project. Then bloggy friend of mine had a birthday coming up and I thought it would be cute to take a scrabble tile and encase it in epoxy and make it into a pendant. So Monday I made the epoxy and was so excited. Well, it turns out that the epoxy turned yellow and there were tons of bubbles. Second attempt on Tuesday, I bought resin this time and used molds instead of vitamin containers. The resin was so easy to use. There were less bubbles. Everything seemed to be going great. Well, I used Pam cooking spray to save money instead of using mold release stuff, now I cannot get the resin out of the molds. Aaaagh! I am going to get this right if it kills me! I will let you know how it goes! On a happier note, my son's penpal from Vermont is visiting us for a week. So we have had a great time showing her around. Yesterday we went to the zoo! Today is the third attempt. Hopefully I will get it figured out in time for tomorrow's Creative Friday! {Any advice would be greatly appreciated!}
I hope you are having a wonderful Thursday!
XOXO

I am the queen of epic craft failures. I probably cursed you, too, when I started reading your blog.

Good luck, they look cute!

I'm sure when you get it right they will be FABULOUS! The previews are super cute! (I hate it when I try to be thrifty and end up wasting effort instead).

Those are so cool! I have always wondered how you make that kind of stuff. I have a friend who makes the resin necklaces and they are awesome.

Oh dear.....

I have had such bad luck with 3D projects that it's not even funny. I probably would have exploded something halfway through that....

Good luck! They look cute!

I love the photos at the zoo. The group photo is my favorite. We love going to the zoo with Trey, he always has so many questions.
Have a wonderful day!

Oh please work out all the kinks because I have wanted to make some of these but never having done this or know anyone who has, I have been hesitant to try. I will check back on Friday for the great results! ;)

Hey Jen,
So sorry it's not turning out for you yet! You'll get it I know it! I too have been wanting to make these! Can't wait to hear how you turned it around.

I may have this idea bookmarked. Somehow I lost some of my bookmarks. I will check it out for you! If you don't hear back from me I came up empty handed.

I love to hear how a penpal got hooked up to come over! How fun!

Oh and your living room is BEAUTIFUL! Love the color...all of it!

Okay, I'm off to help a friend...I hope!

Wish I had advice for you, but I don't. I'm sure you'll be a wealth of resin-related info for world's crafters when all this is over!

Love that sleeping tiger -- wish I could have days like that!

I have never commented before, but I saw the pic of your blue living room--LOVE it! It looks so peaceful and restful with the blue, brown, mercury glass, pussy willows. Just lovely! I may be going to the basement to dig out my mercury glass today!

I purchased a kit from Little Windows at a scrapbook show. I haven't tried using it yet but they have great tutorials at their web site - videos included. They suggest freezing the mold before popping the tile out of the mold.

Looking forward to seeing your next attempt.

How fun to have a visit from a penpal!

I love that you are making these attempts! And that you are showing us! Thank you for that! I am chicken to try this one, but I think you have given enough good advice that I will give it a whirl. (At some point.)

Thanks for posting the disasters and failed attempts. I think I learned more from this post, than anything else I have ever read about resin.

Thanks

I'm so happy you're keepin' it real. It makes me feel better since I mess up almost everything I try (the first time). I am a recent discoverer of decopauging and I too am getting a hold of everything in my house. It's a blast! I am going to use some of your ideas--so thanks for posting!
